TWAICB Director Sandy Sohcot says:

“This past September (2014), we presented a 3-day training on The World As It Could Be Program curriculum for Prince George’s County Maryland Public Schools.  Gloria Darlington, History Teacher and Social Studies Chair of Robert Goddard Montessori Middle School, was one of the participants, and worked together with her colleagues and students to present the school’s biennial poetry night, dedicated to the theme of human rights.  We are pleased to showcase excerpts from the resulting  Human Rights Poetry Assembly on February 27, 2015, featuring the original poems students wrote in connection with their studies about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Ms. Darlington explains, ‘Classes focused the subject of their poetry on the UDHR. The poem could describe a Human Rights violation, define Human Rights or explain why protecting Human Rights is important.’

“We hope you enjoy and take heart from the inspiring words of the original poems, as well as the meaningful and impactful educational process carried out by Ms. Darlington and her colleagues.

“We thank Ms. Dimmie and Ms. Womack of Prince George’s County Public Schools Administration for their approval of TWAICB presenting these videos.”
