On Wednesday, May 30, 2018 the 2017-18 Arroyo High School class of The World As It Could Be Is Within Reach Rite of Passage Program came to the stage for their culminating presentation. Together and individually, class participants Hanen Banana, Leen Banana, Angela Pena, Emma Purves, Alexis Quino Plata, Estefany Rivera and Thi Tran conveyed their ideas about what it means to know about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and apply this knowledge to take action to help generate a healthy community.
Beginning September 12, 2017, the participants met each Tuesday, learning about and reflecting on the importance of the UDHR, as well as how recreation, education, the arts, career and health are critical elements of a healthy community. In addition, they focused their efforts to develop and implement the Radical Red Community Action Project. Arroyo High School teacher Jorja Santillan guided the learning, bringing in guest speakers, and utilizing creative arts elements along the way to deepen learning and encourage expression of ideas.
